ANDERSON — Die ex-wife ofGarrett Cornell, a Noblesville bus driver accused of child molest, said Monday that Anderson officials repeatedly ignored her warnings.June Schattner said she reported Cornell to the Anderson Police Department and Child Protective Services on numerous occasions over the last 12 years, but there was never an investigation.Late Saturday, Cornell was arrested by Noblesville policeafter they were notified of a video allegedly showing Cornell performing sexual acts on his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter. Cornell, 42, is also accused of molesting the girlfriend’s two other daughters, ages 12 and 14.Schattner said her 14-year-old son, who was living with Cornell in Noblesville, was the one who found the video. Before moving to Noblesville, Cornell lived in the 4700 block of Uncoln Street in Anderson. According to Schattner, he also drove a bus for Anderson Community Schools.Schattner claims Cornell received custody of the boy by falsely accusing her of abusing drugs. She also believes her son and Cornell’s daughter from a previous relationship were abused by Cornell when he lived in Anderson. While Cornell’s arrest was made in Noblesville, Gary Dun ha gan, a friend of Schattner, said the alleged abuse started in Anderson. Dunhagan said he and Schattner reported the abuse on a weekly basis. He believes part of the reason Schattner was ignored was because of her physical appearance. He described her as having a bony face and no teeth.Even after getting a substantiated CPS report filed against Cornell for child molestation, Schattner said Cornell was allowed to retain custody of their child.Dunhagan said he got so angry about being ignored that he had to leave the city, and now lives in Kentucky.“It agitated me so much I had to get away from it,” Dunhagan said.
