Mr.Gar ret son was called to the pastorate of the Congregational church of this place from a church in Nebraska ongood recommendations. Rut he hadnot been in town a great while b*fore it was discovered that he wasplaying fast and loose in money matters, running in debt at every store andnever paying anything he could get jout of.Stories were also numerous as toimmoral conduct and conduct unbecoming a minister. l^ast April Gar-retson was practically forced to resign, and when he attempted to moveiis household goods they were attach- Jed and sold at public auction. Themembers of the church here were notat first inclined to press the charges , against him. until it was discovered | that he was attempting to work the same game in the pastorate where he'is now located in Missouri. Formalcharges were therefore made by Mr. j Bowles, accompanied by proofs, and j laid before the Springfield Association of Congregational churches and min- t ers of Missouri.
