From Velpen: On last Friday,March 8, one of (he most disgraceful allairs occurred here that lias ever taken place in our little town. On the morning stated, John, Henry, and William Milburn, three brothers, who are thought to be rather tough when drinking, visited the saloon of Mike Itidgc, and there partook freely of “bug juice”. When ready for work, they' left llidge's saloon and started for the saloon of Bass Ilen-nig. John Milburn placed a pair of knticks on his list, and said, “I am going down to take the saloon.” On his way down he tried (hem 011 a post, and found them all right. He then went in, howling and swearing he had come, lie then went out at the back door, demolished a tub of water, a wash-board, ancba bucket of water, the property of F. G. Decring. When informed by MivDeering that it was his, DecriugV property, John Milburn said he thought it belonged “to that d—d saloon keeper.” Milburn then went into the saloon again, and commenced kicking the chairs, eus-pidores, etc., about the floor. When Mtv Bass, one of the proprietors, requested him to be still and not to make so much noise, he asked Bass what he had to do in the, matter. When Bass told him he had to keep order, Milburn said he would sct^^ the matter and advanced on to Bass; and Iienry Milburn a younger brother, told Bass to stand back and he would take his brother John out of the house. This he was not ublo to do, and John kept trying to get to Bass, but Henry kept between them, and John picked up a cuspidore and threw it at Bass, but missed him. John then put his knuck3 on, and kept crowding Bass who was by this time behind the counter. At this point, Bass pulled his gun and commenced shooting at John Milburn. The first shot took effect in both legs above the knees passing through one leg and lodging in the other. The second shot struck Henry Milburn in the back part of the thigh, and ranged downward. John is not hurt bad ; Iienry is rather badly hurt. Both were taken to William's Hotel, and Doctor Hatfield was called. 11c dressed their wounds and savs thatS\ItIsyy111they arc not liable to die—^Littlle1' , t 1 « 1 . A. ■ •wJclii
