Brewer fate still in jury handsTALLADEGA - The 10 menand two women jurors in theembezzlement trial of formerTalladega County Sheriff Luke Brewer began their third day of deliberation today.The jury received the case Friday but could not reach a decision then or Saturday. Special Judge L S. Moore of Centerville recessed jurors around 5 p m Saturday for theweekend Brewer was tried on chargesof conspiring with Clarence Cook, a Talladega used car dealer, to embezzle a car the sheriff had impounded on suspicion it was stolen.State witnesses Mrs Johnny Carroll testified last week that her husband Johnny Carroll stole the 1964 red Chevrolet Im-pala in Independence, Mo Carroll contradicted his wife’s testimony by maintaining he bought the car from William C. Weir in Attalla in 1969. Carrolltold the court he later signedthe car over to Brewer Weir flew in from Orlando, Fla , Friday to testify he hadnever met Carroll and did notsell him the car Saturday, Moore told the jury it was important to reach a decision and urged them to listen to the arguments of fellow jurors and not cling to one opinion because of stubbornness At 4 25 p m Moore asked if a verdict had been reached andjury foreman Douglas Powell ofSylacauga said no. Powell told the judge he did not feel the situation hopeless Besides the two charges of embezzlement, Brewer faces five other criminal charges in a later trial.
