F. KELLER DISAPPEARED ON THURSDAY NIGHT —FOUND TUESDAY MORNINGOld Gentleman Had Been Unwell For Some Time. Much Sympathy Expressed.^One of Polk County's earliest settlers, Mr. Benjamin II. Keller, 84 years of age, came to his end alone on the night of Thursday, the 5th, or the morning of the oth, while in a corn field about 40 rods west of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tschauner, three miles west of Osceola. Mrs. Tschauner i* a daughter of Mr. Keller and it was at her home he had been living for some time, since coming here from Columbus. The deceased had been dispondent and had expressed himself as being ready to answer the final summons several days before the end came. His body was discovered by his grandson, Elmer Tschauner, as theJad had 'started across the corn fieldon his way to school,Mr. Keller’s home was at 2721 Eighth street, Columbus, but he had .been staying the past month with the Tschauncr's on their farm. Members pf the family saw him in bed at midnight, but he had gone before daylight Friday. Efforts to find a trace of him had proven futile, and it was thought he might have taken a notion to go to Columbus.His body, when found, lay across a shotgun. He had dressed completely before going into the field and his cane was hanging on a ne°aby fence, indicating that he had made his final preparations deliberately. Nearly $300 in currency were found in hispocket.The body was removed *to the Kepnet Son undertaking parlors in Osceola after its discovery had been reported to the Polk county authorities. After being mustered out of the t army, he spent several years in _ I Cheyenne at the time the Union Pacific was being built through there.e~ In the early 70’s he came to Columbus, and homesteaded 12 miles north ^ of Osceola, about mid-way between ry Osceola and Columbus. There he a!* made his home until three or four as years ago, when he left the farm and ca I established his home in a house at 2721 Eighth street, Columbus, which | he bought. Of late he had occupied only one room, renting the remained of the house to tenants.
