JOSEPH. Mo., March 12.—(Special to The Democrat.)—Thomas Carney, of Ottumwa, Iowa., has been sentenced to two years in the penitentiaryat Jefferson City for the crime of for- i _ery. Carney passed a number offorged checks on St. Joseph merchants and when he was arrested several more—were found on his person. His brideof aibout a year was arrested with himbut was subsequently released, as it was found that she knew nothing ofthe forgeries. Carney claims Ottumwa as his home, although he states hisparents live in Oskaloosa.
