ARREST YOUTHSIN LOUDONVILLEAFTER CHASEMarshal Jails Them Following Hunt for Stolen Taxi; Sheriff Finds Bogus Money.MILLERSBURG — Two men were being held in county jail here pending arrival of FBI agents, after a strange series of events that started with the theft of a taxicab and wound up by revealing evidence of counterfeiting.The men are Joseph McCarty, 20, of Garret, Pa, and Gordon Lively, also 20, of Mt Hope, W. Va. fTriey were arrested at 6 p. m. Sunday by Marshal Bert Conrad of Loudonville as they walked along the Pennsylvania tracks. lt;Conrad found a loaded .38 calibre revolver on Lively, papers that Indicated he had served time In West Virginia penitentiary on an 18-month sentence for shooting his father, and had been paroled on Dec.1, 1939.Sheriff Harry Weiss revealed here today that counterfeit half dollars had been found on Lively and that he had notified the FBI that he was holding both men for them. In the meanwhile, they are being held on charges of reckless driving and failing to stop for an officer.The escapode that led to theirarrest started in Wadsworth Satu-day night. They entered a cab there, told the draver to go to nearby Akron, and at the city limits forced him from the cab at gun's point, according to Sheriff Weiss.Then they turned the cab around and headed west At Hoimesville, they \'eercd around a comer at high speed, attracting the attention of Marshal Calvin Klinger-man who was walking along the street. He ordered them to stop but they ignored him. The marshal commandeered another car and gave chase, but the men abandon-ede the car and fled into a swamp.Sheriff Weiss began a search for the men, who were finally arrested in Loudonville by Marsha! Conrad as they walked along the Pennsylvania tracks. Conrad said he obtained a written confession of the theft of the cab from the two youths.What their connection with the counterfeiting business was had not been ascertained early today.rChIiirvFI6u
