NAPIER TO BETAKEN TO STATEINSANE ASYLUMI IMother and Brother in LawStill in Grave Conditionfrom Hammer WoundsKmmott Napier, 31, was today ordered committed to the state insane asylum, while his mother-in-law and her *on remained in a crit-i »iral condition in City Hosptal fromwounds Napier inflict** i early Sunday with a hammer.Mrs. Clara Halcom, 39, the mother-in-law, who was struck in bothtemples, had regained consciousness, hut her son, !elm* r, 1 1, till wa8 unconscious today, fie was struck in the mid lie of the forehead. .The order committing Napier to f the state institution was signed today by Judge Homer Jackson, after two physicians had examined Napier.Napier is a former inmate of the Oklahoma asylum and has been highly nervous lately, his wife told officers, HU wife’s parents and brother had come to spend the week with them at their home four miles southeast of Evansvilleas a protective measure.Sunday morning at 6:30, while Napier was building a fire, he sud-denly droppeJ a stick of wood andgrabbing a hammer, struck his mother-in-law as she sat putting on her shoes, according to the account given officers. He then struck the sleeping hoy. and struck several times at his wife, as she lay in UhI with their six months old son. She was successful in warding off his blows, however, and received only superficial wounds. He made no attempt tostrike the baby.The hammer was taken from Napier, by his father-in-law, Elmer Halcom, who then took him to the home of Mrs. A. M.
