Arrest Follows Fatal ShootingJ. E. Sykes Accused of Having Slain Wayne Wheeler at AlleneFOREMANE. Sykes. 35.was lie id under bond of $2,500 Monday on a charge of murder growing out of the fatal shooting Sunday of Wayne Wheel or. 42, at Allene, near here.Sykes waived preliminary hearing. He told officers he shot Wheeler in self-defense, saying that Wheeler was advancing with a knife. Sykes saidthe slain num was attempting tocoerce Miss Lillie McRae, 2l-year-old school teacher, into going for an automobile ride. Sykes said Wheeler threatened the young woman with a knife, and then he fired twice at him. Wheeler died on the way to a Texarkana hospital.
