THE “ THIRD DECREE ” IDENTIFIOTItfK. .Justice Mayer’s refusal to accept as evidence the alleged identification of Florence Burns by Washington, the colored bell boy of the Glen Island Hotel, was cVearly right It was admitted by Detective Reardon that'the bell hoy was taken into the captain's room while the accused girl .was being plied with Questions on the “third degree*' plan* and that there was no other woman in the room.Such identifications, as Judge Mayer said, “ought to be stopped in the interest of justice/' They are hut one feature of the 'outrageous “third degree business which Commissioner Partridge has .pledged himself - to stop.
