Vails Gate fire 'fishy’VAILS GATEState and local police probed an abandoned New 'Windsor mansionWednesday for clues to four fires that have plagued the building.Vails Gate Fire Chief John McCann said cause of tee latest blase on Tuesday— in which one of his men was Injured — is “definitelysuspicious.”Previously tee house — the former Thomas Mansion on Blooming Grove Turnpike — went ablaze three times. Vails Gate firemen responded Monday as well as on Feb. 2 and March 2.In Tuesday’s fire, Asst. Chief Sidney Weiaheim was injured when he fell eight feet through a floor. Despite a cut face and back and neck injuries, he reported to work Wednesday, McCann said, “feeling pretty sore.”We inhelm was rescued from the mansion basement by his son-in-law, Thomas Pacenza, also a firemen, who scrambled in through a basement window.Three pieces of equipment bolstered the Vails Gate force. Firemen had difficulty getting to the fire because heavy snow blocked approaches to tee house.The house is being demolished to malm way for a housing development.
