ManAUSTIN (AP) — Police Chief Bob Miles disclosed today that officers have arrested and charged a young man in the brutal slaying of a University of Texas coed nearly three months ago.The victim, Diana Laura Hinojosa, was reported missing here last Dec. 14. Her partly nude body was found four days later near a culvert at Giddings, in Lee County. She had been shot and stabbed repeatedly.Miles said evidence leading to the arrest resulted from an anonymous tip to Austin police Lt. Colon Jordan. The Austin chief gave these details at a 3 a.m. news conference:Texas Rangers and city officers arrested Benjamin J. Jackson, 22, in San Antonio about 12:30 a.m. today. He is from the Littig community, near Elgin.Ranger George Brakefield had filed a Complaint naming Jackson accusing Jackson of murder with malice late yesterday with Justice of the Peace O’Barr Rost at Giddings, who directed that the prisoner be held without bond. Jackson, a Negro,, smiled slightly but said nothing as he faced newsmen at the Austin poiice station.
