Iowa Youths From Eldora Training School Go on Car Stealing SpreeSTACYVILLE, Iowa - Residents in this North Iowa community hope they don’t have to go through another Monday like the last one.I About II a.m. two youths,( Paul Swan, 17, Mount Pleasant,, and David Nupp, 17, Ottumwa, Iowa, arrived in Stacyville. They had escaped from the Eldo r a * Boys Training School.Earlier about midnight resi -. dents in the Meyer, Iowa, had- heard a car which was riding I on a flat tire. The boys had t parked the car on a sidestreet- in Stacyville.s They went Into a store andInquired about buying a rifleor if someone could repair a firearm. When coming out about 4:30 p.m. they saw Police Chief Bernard J. Hemann’s squad car complete with light on top. The Swan youth told the other boy to hop in and they would head for Canada.The Nupp youth was wear}’ of crossing the state line into neighboring Minnesota and declined. About this time the postmaster’s wife pulled up across the street and went into the post office to see her husband, Ber* tis Bush.Swan went across the street and climbed into the Bush car and headed north. Nupp returned to the police car and waited to surrender to Hemann. During all the action about four squad cars from the Iowa Highway Patrol and Mitchell County Scheriff's office drove aro u n d looking for the youths.The Bush car was found about 6 p.m. Tuesday near Park Rap ids, Minn., about 300 miles northwest of Stacyville, when it became stalled in a snowbank. Both youths will be returned to Eldora.They had a weekend pass and had stolen the car of Swan’s father which was found in-Stacyville. The Bush car was not damaged in the escapade.
