He provided his new acquaintance with food and helped pay hi* room rent at Lincoln Hotel where ihm alleged offense occured, McNeil said the two became very good friends.The statutory offense occurred oa January 7, according to McNeiL While he and Plumb were in a compromising position, McNeil charge* that Kite and Williams, also known as “Peoria Bill” and by the name of Brown'' opened the door and walked into the room. After demanding 31000,00 hush money Williams is alleged to have left the room. McNeil says It was then suggested by Kit* that arrangements be made with Williams not to reveal what had occurred.Williams was called back to th* room and again $1000 was demanded* McNeil said he could not pay that much and a compromise of $600 was reached. McNeil was to pay $300 at one* and the remaining $300 in June.McNeil was forced to borrow th* money from a bank and his son-in-law helped him arrange a loan. McNeil says he paid the $300 in cash to Williams, who refused to take a check* McNeil went to the bank and cashed a check and paid Williams the $300 on the street in front of the bank. Plumb in his confession said th* money was equally divided between Williams, Kite and himself.Mrs. Kite was drawn into th* charges principally through her alleged statement to McNeil that Williams, then known to McNeil a* Brown, ''must be a federal agent ot some sort because he gets lost of mail from Washington/’ Kite Is also charged with having made similar(Continued on Page Two)
