DID YEISER ASSAULT BUCKLER? |It is Believed That He is the GuiltyMan—No Proof.Many people in Fort Madison have, since the assault on Night Policeman Jos. Buckler, believed that the well known Geo. Yeiser did i the job, though but little has been said on that line, as there has been absolutely no proof to sustain their suspicions. The Keokuk Gate City of this morning stiys:It is learned from Fort Madison people that George Yeiser, wrho is in the county jail awaiting the action of the grand jury on his episode of I last month, when he attempted to kill George Wittich, is supposed to be the person who assaulted Policeman Buckler in a Fort Madison hotel a few weeks ago, although there is no direct evidence that would tend to prove guilt. Yeiser was known to have been in Fort Madison that night, going to Argyle the next morning. He is said to have slipped out of town in a very quiet and suspicious manner. Soon after that episode he returned to Keokuk, and was not off the train a half hour until he got into trouble with Wittich I and the police.
