Following the conviction of Horace Christy, a hotel keeper of Coalmont, by a jury in the Clay circuit court last evening on the charge of pointing a deadly weapon. Charles Gardner, who had been prosecuting witness in the case was surrounded by a buich of Christy's friends in the court house, yard and threatened with personal violence for testifying against Christy. Gardner was forced to return to the court room and appeal to the court for protection. Sheriff Oarrigus accompanied Gardner from the building but the men who had made the demonstration had disappeared.Christy was fined $100 and costs by the jury for pointing a deadly weapon at Gardner. Gardner is employed by the Indiana Electrical Transmission company at Coalmont in the capacity of electrician and in his rounds in reading the electric meter3 in Coalmont recently he found that Christy had been tampering with the meter and run a wire around it so that the electricity used would not register. Gardner reported the matter to the comnuny and received orders to cut cff Christy’s service.Christy was not at home when Gardner took out the meter and cut the wire- but when he returned he grabbed his shot gun and went in '“•arch of Gardner. At the point of the loaded weapon he compelled Gardner to ':imb the pole and re-attach the wires- m install the meter in the hotel. Christy's arrest followedChristy is said to be the bully of Coalmont and the leader of a gang of law violators. Complaints have been received by Prosecutor Robinson that Coalmont is now about1 as bad as it ever was. Until recently the pool rooms, skating rink and moving picture show were all running wide open on Sundays with bootlegging in full swing but when it was reported to Prosecutor oRMnson he got busy with the result that Sunday Is now observed.Prosecutor Robinson is determined to give Coalmont a thorough cleaning and has quite a fund of information to lay before the grand jury which will he called to investigate the state of affairs in the southern Clay county burg.
