Murderous Assaults in Chicago by TomBrewer, a Gambler.Chicago, March 6.—A murderoua’assaolt ,was made on Detective Zauza, last night, by a party of which Thomas Brewer, of Springfield, 111., a gambler, was the leader. The detective was abouj^Jo.arrest a-confidence man when Brewer struck him in the face with a revolver, knocking out three teeth and felling him to the earth. Brewer and other sports then mada their escape. In front of a saloon on State street they came op with a young man named Harvey who had given the police information about a gambling house that Brewer had been ranning. They, beat Harvey into insensibility.Thomas Brewer came from Springfield some, time ago and opened a gambling honse and was soon beaten out of $16*000. Since the closing of his place by the police he has grown desperate and last night wreaked his revenge in a measure.
