Former AustinMan Wanted 22Years ArrestedClarence John Birger, wantedfor 22 years for embezzling $750from the Geo. A. Hormel and Co., is in custody for the second time on a drunk charge in Los Angeles, Calif.California authorities notified Sheriff Carmen Haistenson today who said he would swear out a warrant for Birger’s arrest. Extradition proceedings are being started.Birger, who'se real name is Clarence Gustave Foyer, wasquestioned in 1945 about a $40,-000 shortage. At that time he allegedly admitted taking some of the money but gave a very confusing story.Birger, reportedly was a purchaser and made out profit and loss reports on sales routes while employed at the HormelCo.A warrant for grand larcenywas issued in June. 1945 afterBirger had disappeared.Birger had been arrested before on a drunk charge in 1964 but was bailed out and disappeared before the County Sheriff could tell the Los Angeles Police to hold him.
