The doors of the place had been locked and Sykes, from within, haddeclined to answer repeated requeststhat the officers be permitted to enter.I was asleep; T didn't know vou want' d ine he told the police, when the officers arrested him.'Queen of Heaven.The apartment where Sykes sought refuge had Jj«cn occupied up to yesterday by Marie Frede, his M$ucen of heaven/*Yesterday the woman was taken to the insane ward ot the county hospital for observation, following a court order.The superintendent of the hospital announced todav an attempt was made last night to break into the ward in which she was confined, to icleasc her. A nurse detected a manin the act of cutting a screen butefforts to capture him failed.Bail Is Forfeited.San Francisco/ March 5.—Joslrna Sykes, head oi the Church of the Living Cod, of Denver, and his disciple, A, M. Dean, were ordered into custody and their bail of $5,000 each ordered forfeited when they failed to surrender today to begin service of a term of IB months eachfollowing a selective ' draft obstruction. conviction,The United States marshal was given bench warrants to arrest both men and bring them here.Others Surrender.Two other disciples who were convicted with Sykes, J. J. Ferguson and Joseph Crosby, surrendered themselves. They are under sentences of a year and a day each.Sykes and Dean had been granted stays by the court and on one occasion Sykes was reported to havestarted unescorted from Denver togive himself up here. He got as faras Cheyenne, where he said he had a “vision'* that the world was to end on or before March 4, This impelled him to return to Denver.
