Candidate calls for probe of Tezak plea agreementCongress should investigate the plea agreement between former Will County political power broker Robert Tezak and federal prosecutors, 11th Congressional District candidate Marty Gleason said Friday.Gleason, one of seven hopefuls vying in the March 15 Democratic primary, at a Joliet press conference called on Congress to launch a full investigation into Tezak’s relationship with the Will County Private Industry Council.Gleason said he was outraged that federal prosecutors failed to pursue the most serious charge against Tezak, who is to be sentenced next month.Tezak, one-time Will County coroner, pleaded guilty recently toconspiracy to burn two buildings, mail fraud and threatening a witness. He pleaded not guilty to destroying records subpoenaed in an investigation into PIC or any charges stemming from a probeinto PIC activities.Yet, Gleason charged, in the transcript of his guilty plea, Tezak’s involvement in the PIC building fire is clear.The building, in downtown Joliet, was burned to the ground in 1987 shortly after federal investigators began seeking records from the organization.PIC is a private, job training organization that obtains federal grants to finance its programs.
