Everybody Made It But One — Nurse Tells Wounded Deputy(See Photo on Page 12A)By PAUL AKERS Of The Daily Mail StaffPOINT PLEASANT — “Everybody made it but one,” the nurse said.“Who did n't? asked Mason County deputy sheriff Richard Dyer from his hospital bed.“Sheriff Pete Wedge,” the nurse replied,Dyer closed his eyer. Oh my God no!” he said.The nurse placed her hands on Dyer’s arm, “He never felt any pain.” How’s Kenny doing? asked Dyer in reference to Kenneth Love, the deputy who had accompanied him when they received a distress call from the jailer. “He's gone, too,” the nurse said.Deputy Love had died with Bruce Sisk, who fired a shotgun into a suitcase full of dynamite in the cell of his wife, Harriet.As Dyw sibbed quietly, the nurse said, We're lucky we didn’t lost more thanWhen Dyer and Love arrived at the jail they found state troopers already there. They were joined shortly by Sheriff Wedge and city policemen.The officers responded to the distress cali by the jailer, Charles Anson. Anson told the other officers that Sisk had altered the jail, stuck a shotgun in his face and demanded to see his wife, imprisoned for the slaying lt;f her 2-mootb-oid daughter.Policanen convened in a trusty room to discuss what to do. They released the male prisoners, then pa-suaded the gunman to turn loose of Alice Sue Mis sen, Mrs. Sisk's cellmate.She (Mrs. Missen) told us (hat Sisk only wanted to spaid the night with his wife. Dyer said.Then, Mrs. Missai said that Sisk said we had better get evffybody out of the building.Dyer said the last time he saw Sheriff Wedge alive was when the sheriff was squatting behind a partition, talking with Mrs. Missen. Suddenly, Mrs. Sisk screamed out and two troopers walked down the hallway toward her cell.Meanwhile. Dyer continued, he followed Deputy Anson, who had opened up access doors behind the cell block.those lights. He can take a shot at us.“Then, the next thing I know, 'boom,’ I thought he had hit both of us with the shotgun.’'Dyer said he was knocked back several feet to a flight of steps. He felt heavy metal mi his chest. Then, he said, everything disappeared.I thought water was leaking onto my Airt, Dyer said. But, it was my head bleeding.”The blast ripped off the deputy’s glasses and tie and blew his shirt wide open, hesaid.Dyer apparently was the least injured of all the police officers. He suffered bums, blisters and cuts to his face, hands, arras and chest.Somehow he managed to reach the dispatcher’s office upstairs, where two prisoners were prostrate. The next thing he knew, he was in a police car being taken to the hospital.What about the guy with the gun and his wife?” Dyer asked the nurse.
