CONSTABLE SAYS GUN WAS DRAWNAND THAT WILD WEST STYLEWAS ADOPTED.* i' X*Seizure of Slot Machines at Nap* panee Surrounded With Melodramatic Interests.The wholesale raid at Nappaneemade by the local officers and deputies Wedi%jsday at noon was not as quietly performed as was first reported. For * severd months Nappanee parties have complained ofslot machines. The irst act of .the interested parties/Goshen officers say was to engage two detectives to locate the devices. Then came the complaint. TThe officers arrived in Nappanee shortly before noon and divided. Marshal Banta went to tie Coppes hotel where he found three machines Amos Heath went to George McLaughlin’s and Officers Cobbum and Brady went to Calvin Webster’s and HermanRosebrough’s.All submitted to the officers with the exception- of McLaughlin, who pulled his gun on Constable Heath, the latter says, “For the first time in my life” stated Heath “A man has pulled a gun squarely on me,” The constable was not slow with his 38 and soon had the drop on McLaughlin and several bystanders who had voiced their sentiments. During their wrangle McLaughlin said he didn’t fire because of his old acquaintance with Mr Heath. After he had his manunder arrest the other officers of the/posse arrived and relieved the constable from his awful position.The machines were loaded upon a wagon and the journey home was begun. A large crowd of citizens were arrayed in front of Justice. Whisler’s office last night awaiting the home coming o£ the officers.The machines were unloaded and carried into the court room, where a reception was held. They will open the machines at the trial. The machines were expensive ones ranging in price from $125 to $200, several of them being supplied with musical attachments.They were arraigned before Justice Whisler this afternoon and all but Rosebrough pleaded guilty to running gambling devices and were assessed $89.80, fine r.nd cost.
