Joseph Stais, who lived at 166 WestNineteenth street, was the victim. went yesterday afternoon to the flat at 968* West Chicago avenue, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Baker, to sieze furniture, and was shot and almost instantly killed bv Mrs. Baker. The woman, whose first name i*Blanche, was alone in her flat when Slais, with a companion visited it.She is a delicate little woman, weighing less than 100 pounds, of French descent, and lt;xf an excitable nature. She broke down immediately after the shooting and was unable to talk clear- j lv, but was strong in her assertions that the constable had not identified himself in any way, anad that ho had not show n any proof of his authority. She said she thought the boldest kin 1 of robbery was about to be attempted,and under the spell of fear, fired thefatal shot.
