The following account of two of the murders lb taken from the Hurley Miner: Q-jfiet Friday night Elias Laukanen better known as Alias Mattson, shot and killed John Rein near the village of Gile in the town of Montreal^} It seeniB tlmt the men had had previous trouble during which Mattson ’.slushed Rein across the back of the hand with a sharp knife* Friday .night the men met and got Into a quarrel, and when on the highway near the junction, of the road running east and west and tlie one leading into the village of Gile, Mattson drew a revolver and shot Rein through the body, causing Ins death. Rein only lived a short time after being shot, but loug enough to tell who tired the fatal sholt;t. The murderer made good Ills escape and up to the present time the officers have not succeeded in effecting his capture or getting a ny clue to Jliis whereabouts.
