THE STATE AT LARGE.Montgomery County.Rockville, Md , June ‘38th.—SheriffFairall this morning arrested Edgar P. Watkins, Wm. Watkins, Thomas Dove and John Chase, the last named being colored, near Gaithersburg, Montgomery county, upon the charge of attacking and robbing Bernard Virna, of Baltimore, and Moses Kahn, of Philadelphia, peddlers. A few evenings ago the peddlers stopped at the residence of Mr. Levi Watkins. father of two of the accused, and arranged to spend the night at his house. After supper they visited a neighbor of Mr. Watkins, where they found the Watkins boys, Dove and Chase. The younger Watkins accompanied them on their return, and when near their destination proposed that they should take a bath in a am, which was agreed to. While the Hers were dressing they were attacked four disguised men. who handled them roughly, and Kahn was robbed of his watch.At the home of Mr. Watkins the peddlers related their experience, and when the Watkins boys returned their father spoke to them of the assault. Edgar Watkins denied it, and, it is charged, attacked Kahn with a club, beating him severely, Edgar Watkins was acquitted several months ago at Ellieott City od the charge of murdering a man named Trail, w hom he had shot in self-defense in Montgomery younty. Subsequently he was sent to the House of Correction to serve out a term for an assault upon his father.
