It will bo remembered that during last J in nary an attempt was made to rob the Atchison, Topeka A Santa Fe road at Kinsley by six desperadoes. The attempt proved a failure on ac-. count of the weakening of two of the robbers. Four of them, named Edgar West, Titos. Gott, .1. D. Green, and Uodcbaiigh, were soon after arrested by Sheriff Mwirrson, «TT TOdge City, and were confined in the Emporia jail until last week wken they were tried in Edwards county before Judge S. Ri* Petors. Kodehaugh turned State's evidence and was released, after which West, GoU.and Green plead guilty, and on the 20th they were seutenced to five years imprisonment in the State penitentiary. On the 21st they were taken to the penitentiary by sheriff G. W. Fuller, oi Edwards county, assisted by three guards. West’s father, an aged ami respectable farmer In Illinois, was with his only son, and accompanied him to the penitentiary. The old man seemed weighed down with a mountain of grief and woe. Titos. Gott la said to bo from Fen nsy I van la, and J. D. Green id trom Clay county In this State. The three robbers were young men not over thirty years of age and did not appear to be very desperate characters.
