aaf-nKILLING BREAKSUP RURAL DANCEEverett Bond Accused of Murderng Var-die WhittenSpecial to The Leader.Hattiesburg, Miss., June 27.— Everett Bond, youngest of the Bond family of Lamar county, is in jail in Hattiesburg, under a charge of murder as the result of a killing which took place near Oloh Saturday night, when Bond shot Vai'die Whitten, stepson of Bond’s sister, following a quarrel between the two men at a dance at Tony Kletchka’s farmhouse, the event celebrating Kletchka’s wedding.Bond was brought to Purvis Sunday night by Walter Stanson was placed under arrest by Sheriff Mit Williamson of Lamar county, and as feeling against him was rather strong, several of Whitten’s relative* gathering at the jail with pistols,.Bond was brought to the Hattiesburg jail.Just how the killing occurred has not been determined. Two of Whitten’s brothers were present when the shootiing took place and Bond asserts that his brother had left the house shortly before the killing.There were about 25 or 30 people present at the dance, which was broken up by the shooting, Bond said, but who they were could not be determined accurately.Everett Bond is a brother of Jack Bond, wiho was shot to death when Deputy Sheriff Ladner attempted to arrest him some time ago on a liquor charge, and also a brother of Henry Bond, under sentence to hang for the murder of Federal Prohibition Agent J. E. Green and Marshal J. L. Dunnam, of Richton, about a year ago at this time.Whitten was rushed to the Methodist Hospital in this city immediately after the shooting in a dying condition, and he lived through the night, dying at 10:40 Sunday morn-jp“gj ing.
