Duke QuizzedIn SacramentoLester Duke,1* alias Ernest Gantz, wanted here on nine counts of passing bad checks, was being questioned in Sacramento today by Capt, George Martin of the San Mateo police force.Little likelihood was seen that Duke would face _ prosecution in San Mateo. Authorities pointed outgome 20 other cities throughout the state have placed hoids. on him. Los Angeles is believed to have priority. Other bay area communities which have filed complaints are Palo Alto, Berkeley, San Leandro, Hayward and Vallejo. -An ex-canvfct, awarding to the Sacramento teletype, Gantz has a wife, Roae, who lives at 209 West Fairview boulevard, in Inglewood. Hie teletype gave his one-time occupation as salesman. A native of Mew York city, he is 34 years old, and has a scar on the ridge of his nose.Earlier yesetrday, San Mateo merchants had identified “Lester Duke” as one George Walter Anderson, alias Ernest G. Patrick, also a San Quentin.' ‘ex-convict Similar identification* had been made by eight bilked merchants in Berkeley. However, apprehension of Gantz placed some doubt on theidentification.Acting chief of the division of criminal identification in Sacramento, J. H. McClellan, in a teletype later in the day stated an opinion * the Anderson identification may be in error. He said at the present time-no prints or photographs axe available in .the files.8n
