MOONSHINE RAID ON KNOX CREEKOne Man Killed and Five Ar-rested by Buchanan County Officers, Assisted by Slate I Prohibition Officer.Grundy, Vii.* June 22.A posse of revenue officers, assisted by Sheriff Ben Ratliff, and his deputies and F. M, Clevinger, State prohibition officer, went to the head of Knox Creek, thia county, U mid reported moonshine stills.They first went to the home of Burbank Blankenship, where they iouiid Blankenship, his son, Walker Blankenship and Dave Keen, opernt-ing an illicit distillery. The operators fled as the officers approachedthe distillery and, after being ordered to stop by the officers, and on failing to do so, they were lireil upon by the officers, one man being slightly wounded in the arm and hip. These parlies were taken to Btaekey, Vn„ to remain until the other officers went to the home of Boyd Blnnkcn-Hhip, for the purpose of apprehending him on charges of firing on Federal officers on a previous raid and for operating an illicit distillery.When the ofllcers approached and entered the house of Boyd Blankenship, there wns no one to be seen, except the wife of Blankenship and two or three small children, who informed the officers that Blankenship wrts not at Jione, After mnIcing search the officers found Blankenship concealed in a bed with a 38 special revolver in his hand and a high-powered Winchester rifle standing at the hend of his bed. When they pulled thu cover oft of Blankenship he fired upon the officers who returned the Are, killing him almost instantly. They then returned to Blackey, Vra. joined the other officers and proceeded lu Grundy* Vs*, with the five prisoners captured previous to the killing of Blankenship.
