H. idertak-: he had on for•seel theSioux City, June 24. — Jack Applebaum, a roving citizen, drew the grand prize of fifteen days in the county jail this morning in police eourt. He was walking over the Fourth street viaduct lasf night when be met M. Shulkin and a party of friends. Applebaum made some slighting remark about the Hebrew race that Shulkin resented and there was a short foot race. A police officer finally took Applebaum to the station where he was charged with disturbing the peace.When he was searched a letter was found on him which stated that he was deaf and dumb and deserving of the help and assistance of all charitable people as he. bad a mother and brothers and sisters to care for. It was signed by Ed DeMoulin. He admitted this morning that he was in the habit of using tbe letter in order to assist him in getting a livelihood.When sentenced he was talkative and informed the officer he would make a wholesale killing of Hebrews when he got out. This gave Chief Nelon the idea that it would be a good thing to have photographs taken of the young man while he was in custody. Applebaum told the judge that he was talking to himself when Shulkin met him and that his remarks had no hearing in any one present.
