Cooper, and during thee hearing he continued to smile, looked out of the window, and apparently had unlimited poise. Even when he 4 answered the charge of murder w:th n the plea of not guilty and was held without hail for the September term i- of the supreme court he showed no r feeling. in | Wellman has dark hair and eyes, J g with long curling lashes. He was r dressed in a gray suit, blue sweater d and ecru shirt, presenting a very dif-s ferent appearance from his accom-e plice, Perley Jones, 20, who was ar- ^ g raigned on the same charge May 20. . v There were few spectators in the r court room at 10 o’clock for few had learned lhat Wellman had been •r brought to Belfast. Sheriff Cooper went to the Knox county jail after ° him in the morning and arrived just K c in time for the hearing. Wellman 11 was accompanied by his attorney, ^ Frank J. Terrill of Rockland.“ With Municipal Court Judge Carle- I * ton Doak presiding and County At- ^ e torney Clyde R. Chapman as prose-n cutor, the hearing occupied an hour f' y and a half. Several of the witnesses h it heard in the Jones hearing a month 4 ago were again examined, including I st Dr. Carl H. Stevens of Belfast, who h made an examination of the body.•e In addition to his testimony offered u. ,h at that time, Dr. Stevens stated that f r the stomach of the dead man was ex- 1 1S amined and found to contain from ’lt; lc four to six tablespoons of dandelion \ greens and that no odor of liquor was S determined.
