LoanDetailsSoughtBRACEBRIDGE, Ont., June 21 (CP)—Alter two days and nights of questioning of the principals, bringing forth puzzling state-• raents of many angles of the strange drowning of pretty Christina Kettlewell, the inquest on her death .Saturday stood adjourned until next Wednesday. For most of the proceedings since the inquest opened in this Mus-koka resort area last Thursday, the witness stand has been occupied in turn by Jack Kettlewell, husband of the bride of eight days, and by his long-time friend and best man at the wedding, Ronald Barrie.Two lengthy statements given to police by Barrie were admitted Friday and Barrie was questioned at length on their contents by C. P. Hope, official of the altorney-gen-eral's department at Toronto.Tells Of LoanBarrie Friday night re-affirmed that ht had loaned $12,500 to Christina—a bank employee on a small salary— before her marriage. The signed statement said that the girl paid back $13,000, the S5D0 extra being interest on the loan.Mr. Hope asked for the adjournment to check on statements of Barrie, one-time dancing teacher, about the loans, indicating that police will question the half-dozen persons from whom Barrie said he borrowed the $12,500 to. help Christina.For four hours, Mr. Hope hammered questions at Barrie who said i his net income in 1945 was $1,500. In 1946 he built two houses, making about $1,000 on each. In 1947 he had no income.Kettlewell was in attendance for the early part of Barrie's evidence, listening with rapt attention. Thenhe was ordered to leave.The 28-year-old Barrie, former ballroom dancer, alleged in a 3,000-word statement previously described by police as '‘fantastic that Christina had tried to commit suicide and murder his .life-long friend before the marriage; i , j In a second statement Barrie admitted being a party to sexual acts with Kettlewell, but insisted these improper relations lasted only a short time and had terminated a long time ago.
