TUESDAY, JUNE 19.IKIDNAPER CAUGHT.HAD BOY FROM SOUTHBENDJohn By an, Kidnaper of Pay Morse, in Jail Charged With Kidnaping- Another Boy- -Is Znsane. At 8 o’clock last night Sergeant Dunbar was Called to the Indiana Street Railway office and placed under arrest a man giving his name as John Rysnwho had in his charge a ten year%old South Bend boy who claimed he was being kidnaped. At the station Ryan proved to be the same person who took young Fay Morse to Goshen Saturday night and then returned him the following morning,From all appearances Ryan had gone to South Bend immediately after returning to this city Sunday and followed the same tactics he did here by lniuoing a youog boy to leave hishome and accompany him. While on the car enroute to Elkhart Ryan and hia young companion were closely watched by Sapt, Cummins andTheodore Luce ot the street railway»company owiDg to the man’s strange actions. Upon the arrival of the car in this city Ryan left his young companion on the sidewalk while he entered the ticket office but no sooner had he disappeared through the door than the boy ran up to Mr. Luce and asked to be saved from Ryan who waa trying to steal him.Messrs. Cummins and Luce, now feeling convinced that this waj ihs same man who attempted to kidnap Fay Morse, detained him at the ticket office until the arrival of Sergeant Du a bar. A west bound oar was then ready to leave and before the boy’s name could be ascertained by the officer he was placed aboard and taken back to his home.At police headquarters Ryan gave every indication of being Insane. His conversation was rambling and had little meaning. The statement that his children had bsen taken from him and that be had been sent to Dunning and intended to take everybody’s until he oonld find his own, gives the officers the impression that the fellow has recently been confined in the Danning asylum.Ryan had a small amount over two dollars in money when arrested.Ryan stands in his cage and pulls at the barB as if he would renS them apart. From his conversation it has been gathered that his wife was run over and killed by a wagon; that he is an electrician, and after falling from a pole was sent to the detention hospital at Dunning. He says when he returned his children Willie and Kellie were gone and he could not find them. It has been gathered from his disconnected sentences that he sold his house and has money in tne bank, but where he cannot tell. When Fay Morse entered 'the jail he shoved Mb arms through the bars and tried to fondle him, telling the child that “he looked like Willie.” Ryan 1b under the care of a physician, and with proper care it is thought will recover his mind sufficiently to tell his history, He is a man about fifty years of age with hair and beard tinged with grey.Fay Morse positively identified Ryan this morning as the man who induced him to leaye home.
