Morse, who lives at 1009 South Main street, reported to the police that his eight year old son had disappeared during the evening and he had become very much alarmed over his continued absence. It wsa at first thought that the boy had followed the Gore Riflaa to Slmonton lake and an officer was sent to that place, but returned without haviDg secured aDy trace of him. The search was continued throughout the night and in t ie morning when the officers were still unable to report any success both Mr. and Mrs. Morse were nearly prostrated with grUf. Later in the morniDg the boy appeared at his Aame and told a strange story.He said that a man approached him Saturday even ng while he was playing near his hem* and asked him to go witn him. Wi:h promises of candy, new clothes ard other things that are tempting to a boy, the man succeeded in getting young Morse to go down town with him. They entered a store where a pair rf shoes and stockings were purchased for the boy after which they boarded an interurban car andwent to Goehen.According t j the boy'3 story I he man drank a good leal during lha evening,but he wbs finally taken to a hnuse where they wont to bed. During the night ths man became sick aud young Morse got into another bed where heremained until morning,When they ?ot up ths boy asked tobe taken home and although the fellow again tried to persuade him by promises to F.ccompauy him the boy said he would rather return home and finally they boarded a car and came back to Elkhart. Young Morse was put off the car near Germania hall byhis comoanioa who left the car at themonument. The boy went immediately to his homi aud hf.er his story had been told accompanied his father to police headquarters. A search was made but the man could not be found. The fellow was probably so intoxicated that he did not know what he was doing when he took the boy and in the morning when more fully realizing what had transpired he at once tried to rectify what he had done by returning the child.
