Chaucey 1lt;\ Page.The editor of the Valparaiso Vulct'n recently visited the State Prison at Michi {tan City, and “ interviewed” Page, the con. vict, of whom he give the following sketch :Cell No. 07 is occupied by Channeey F-Page. We stopped a moment to make a more particular examination of the home of a man whose offence is one of the most horrible in the annals of crime.The floor is carpeted, and the whole interior of the room is kept as neat as a pin. At the bead of his bunk is a fine regulator clock, standing on the cabinet, or work-case, where Page keeps his tools used in the watch making business. The officers of the prison have kindly peimitted him to work at his trade, during the leisuie moments, by means of which he is enabled to earn considerable money to .supply himself with little luxuries to ameliorate his prisou life. We noticed several volumes of books and a pile of newspapers on his table..By the way, the officers of the pilscn all unite in saying that the best behaved and most orderly of the convicts are those who have committed the most terrible crimes.* * * At one of the windows,on the north side, overlooking the prison park, at work on a buggy box, we found Chauncey F- Page, the man whose atrocious crime has made him notorious. As we approached him, he gave us a quick, searching glance, and seemingly recognizing us. partly turned his back to us as we passed. We hesitated some minutes about approaching him. feeling a sort of repelling influence in his presence that was any thing but agreeable. Mr. McClelland fustn nspoke to him, after which the conversa*-lion becama general. Page seemed interested, but almost the first question he asked was r ‘‘flow is Miss Ludolph Our readers will remember that she is the poor girl who providentially escaped to tell the tearful story of bis crime.
