: .On the night of- the 13th, five ruf-fains entered the house of Henry Bugler, City Marshal of Independence, Mo..: and endeavored to'obtain the keys 01 the jail for. the purpose of releasing a man named Jacob JPerry, one. of their number, who had been arrested the day previous, and confined 14 the jail in that plaoe, Mr. Bugler, refusing to give up the keys, was instantly killed. Several of the citizens aimed themselves and-proceeded to the scene of disturbance; and compelled the bushwhackers to beat % nasty retreat;-.but having no horses, the citUeni 00old r pursue but a short distance, and the outlaws escaped unhurt.
