Lucas yesterday sentenced selfadmitted transsexual and Dale car promoter Jerry Dean Michael to one year in prison for bail jumping.Michael 47 was convicted in a jury trial last May 28 of jumping bail.The charges stemmed from a 1961 arrest for counterfeiting.Prosecution ArguesBetter known as G. Elizabeth Carmichael, the defendant used the woman’s name for the past eight years during which time he made national headlines by promoting the Dale, supposedly a revolutionary gas-saving, three-wheeled car.The prosecution argued that Michael fled California in August 1961 after his arrest on the counterfeiting charges.During the next 14 years, Michael used no less than three -aliases and four different Social Security numbers to elude capture, said Asst. U.S. Atty. Vincent J. Marcella.Michael faces trial on the counterfeiting charge on July 8.Claims PovertyAt his sentencing Michael asked the judge if he could have a public defender appointed to his case because he hasno money.In a financial statement submitted to the court.
