An unknown person or personsshot through plate glass windows and a door at the home of Dr. B. E. Murph, 118 Harrison Blvd., around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Lester Kervin ; of the Laurel Police Depart j ment's identification bureau. |Dr. Murph. former vice president of the Mississippi branch of the National Association for theAdvancement of f'nlored Peopleand presently state youth coun- J selor and advisor for NAACP in 1 Mississippi, reported to police he was asleep alone in his home at the time.The doctor reported the sound of the blasts did not awaken him as he had the doors closed to his room However, neighbors told the police of the time they heard the shots Dr. Murph discovered the shattered glass and bullet holes around 6; 80a.m.. Sgt, Kervin said.According to Capt. James Se! ,lers and Officers M. H. Wellg. iHarrison and Hill, six shots went through the front plate glass window of the brick house and a glass section of the front door The blasts were from 16 and 12 gauge shotguns. Kervin said two of the bullets were recovered, j Dr. Murph’s wife and children are out of town on a vacation. The shooting was confined to the i front of the house.
