During the ride the white man drove to the house of a fellow named Chapman, and ordered him and his son to assis in arresting Cook as a runaway slave. But McCord followed and beat him witli a club, put him in the buggy and again with the son of Chapman started for Cincinnati. Cook sinking rapidly from his injuries, they drove off into a woods, look him and set him up by a tree and lefthim, dead.
