They found the buck knife allegedly used in the murder hidden in the car’s air cleaner in the engine compartment.The crime lab also found and examined the clothes that McGowan allegedly wore when Stark was murdered, Raemisch said.Plumer characterized McGowan as a stalker, saying McGowan had planned the crime so carefully that he brought a change of clothes to wear after killing Stark.After the murder, McGowan went to his job.McGowan was born in Tampa,Fla. He was convicted in Coweta County, Ga., of sexual assault at gunpoint in 1984, said Raemisch.McGowan moved to Wisconsin to attend truck driving school, Raemisch said. He has also lived in Rio and Madison.In 1991, he was convicted of sexual assault of a child in Madison. He was sentenced to a year in jail with work-release privileges and was placed on probation.Foust said he did not have details Sunday about the 1991 sexual assault or the sentence that McGowan received.
