Rockuarry PrisonRock Festival SetBUFORD, Ga. (AP) - “If you’re going to teach inmates low to live and function in a community, they’ve got to have [ree world types of entertainment,” says Warden David England. With just that in mind, a rock festival will be held Sunday in the infamous, old “Rock Quarry Prison.” The facility once housed the hard-core of Georgia’s prison population but now is an honor camp.England said a 21-year-old inmate serving time for burglary arranged the festival, which will feature six hours of nonstop music in the prison yard from a half dozen bands.England, who has been warden 10 weeks, hit on the festival idea and told the prison’s 165 inmates—all felons—to set it up.The warden said the rock music would exemplify the changes at the prison since 1963 when it took the title of GeorigaTraining and Development Center.“Until then, this place was like something out of a Grade-B move,” said England. It was called rock quarry prison because the prisoners spent their days breaking up rocks with sledgehammers.”The minimum security prison is now encircled only by a chain-link fence.“I don’t imagine any of the people who were here when this place was rock quarry prison would ever have thought that the inmates would be listening to a rock concert in the prison yard,” England said.OWENPHARMACYPRESCRIPTIONSDIAL 226-0511
