Darrough returned with a posse’ from the Spavinaw hills, where his officers captured Ben Hungry and Ned Cars ain't-, who were accomplices or the Wickliffe brothers, full blood Cherokee Indian outlaws. The prisoners were1 placed in the United States jail charged with complicity in the murder of Deputy United States Marshals I. L. Gilstrap and J. H. Vicr.Hungry confessed that he was in the fight when Deputy Gilstrap was killed and that Carsalut harbored the ’ Wickliffe brothers and Hungry the night before the battle. John Smith and his full blood “Night Hawks,’* who are working under Marshjal Darrough got on the trail of Hungry and Carsalut and sent for the blood hounds and effected their capture and they went on after the Wickliffcs and up to this time have not been able to force a battle with them.Hungry made a complete confession to Marshal Darrough, admitting that he was with the Wickliffes when they killed Deputy Gilstrap and hud been scouting- with the WHkliffes since Gilstrap was killed. Hungry had been chased so closely by the Night Hawk” officers that he left the Wickliffes and intended lea.ving the country when he was captured. The confession was taken by,Commissioner Farrer. Hungry says lie joined the Wickliffes a week before the fight with Deputy Gilstrap and althougn he was present, he took no part in thc fight. He says John Wickliffe, the Lader of the outlaws shot Gilstrap and then robbed the dead body. Hungry claims that the Wickliffes forced him to stay with them after the fight and threatened to kill him if he left them. The chase became so hot that lie escaped from them one night.
