The continued to arrive on foot and in ai kinds of conveyances until nine, whe the town was ful2. Meantime a larg crowd gathered about the jail to wit ness the lynching. Those who did th work met at some distance from th Jail and held a consultation. Sooi they were seen approaching with thlt; leader at the head with a coil of ropi :n his hands. The leader was Shepard i brother of the man killed by thi Barbers last fall in Payette county Ee did none of the work and did nol ay his hand either to the breaking nto the jail or .to taking the men out ind hanging them. None of the ynehers were masked or made any •ffort to conceal thlt;pr identity. There vere about one hundred men in the 'arty, mostly from the vicinity of he _ murder of Kersting.
