Monessen youthheld in assaultA 16-year-old Monessen boy was in Westmoreland County Juvenile Detention Home this morning after being charged with assault with intent to ravish and attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl in her Monessen home about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, police reported.The girl was treated at Charier oi-Monessen Hospital for blows of the head received when she fought off her assailant. Her face was bleeding, according to police. The hospital report said the girl was ‘‘struck three times” around the right temple. She was released after treatment.The boy, who was arrested after being identified by the gn f and a witness who saw him fleeing from the house, denied involvement.According to police, the girl was sitting on steps outside her home when the boy sat down beside her. She ran into the house and attempted to lock the door, winch (he hoy forced openOnce inside, police said, heripped the girl’s outer and inner clothing and broke her eyeglasses. He fled the home amid the girl’s screams.The witness, who is the girl’s reported boyfriend, arrived on a bicycle and saw the boy, his his clothing disrumpled, fleeing.The girl’s mother also was attracted by the screams and ran to her daughter’s aid as the boy fled. The mother told police her daughter’s outer and inner clothes had been ripped.Both the girl and the witness said the boy was wearing tan trousers. However, when police arrested him at his home a short time later he had on clothes other than that which had been described.The boy claimed he had been elsewhere at the time.He was arrested by police, taken before Magistrate John Chatlak Jr. and then committed to the county juvenile home in Greensburg.The boy reportedly had been allowed home from a correctional institution to attend a funeral.
