FARRIS WRITES BOOKFormer Harrison Minister Author of “The Harrison Riot, or the Reign of Mob on M. N. A.”vs*ffie Times is in receipt of a new book just off the press, by Rev. J. K. Farris, of Wynne, Ark., which purports to tell the truth about the strike in a fair and impartial spirit.Whether we differ from the Rev. Farris, or not, we must say it is a fine book as to workmanship and is well written. It is interesting especially to the people who lived through the strike here, and they should all read it. Before passing judgment on any controversy, one should hear all sides. The book deals with real people, and as there is no more interesting study than man himself,6 the hook to our mind is entertaining if it does tell a doleful and sad tale, There are humorous incidents as well as the sad throughout. But, with all deference to the spirit of fairness which the Rev. Farris purports to deal with his subject, we are inclined to consider the book as a skillful and clever defense of the strikers. Rev. Farris is insinuating that he' believes the strikers are innocent of any wrongdoing, and that the citizens are responsible for the trouble. We will not attempt to defend anyone guilty* of a crime, and only would see that both sides were treated fairly. But as the Rev. Farrisonly arrived on the scene just before the last curtain, he knew only of what happened to the strikers and could not judge wisely of motives and guilt.Rev. Farris was not here during the period of depredations, night prowling, robbery, intimidation and abuse which was heaped upon a long-suffering people. He did get here when they cried “Enough of this devilment.” He saw an outraged people take their lives in their hands in defense of home and loved ones, and could not understand their motives.i.
