A Remarkable Crime.Tuesday afternoon a negro man. James Tinsley by name, according: to later iden-titlcation, was found hanging to a limb cf a tree above the city. Around hisneck was a belt strap, and the man wHsdead. The first assumption, a violent one, was that tho negro had committed suicide, something one of that race rarely does. Later it was discovered that the man’s neck was broken, and it was evident that the case was not one of suicide. The feet of the dead man touched the ground and were bent under him. lied he hanged himself his neck could nothave been broken. Moreover, a hat w'as upon his head. Had his neck been broken by the drop the hat would have fallen from his head. Therefore, James Tinsley was hanged by some one—hanged effectively—for during the operation his neck was broken. The murderer, or murderers, for there were probably several implicated, must then have cut down the body and suspended it again by the belt strap In order to create the impression of suicide. If a murder has been committed in this case, as appears to be indisputable, it is one of the most remarkable in the annals of crime in Virginia. If it has a parallel, no one about here recalls it.— Newport News Press.
