Will and Lew Noret of Wyoming, are pretty thoroughly convinced that Ed Orton, who married their sister six weeks ago, is rather a tough and slippery character. Early this spring Orton worked as a farm hand for John Drinnin, north of town. One night John discharged him, and Orton developed into a running horse trainer. lie had bargained with Lew Noret for a four-year-old mare and was to pay forty dollars for her. Friday morning last after Noret had gone away to work Orton took the animal, leaving a draft on a Peoria bank to pay for her. When Noret came home to dinner and was given the draft, he thought it would not be a bad idea to see if it was good, and upon telegraphing to Peoria, learned that Orton had never had any money there. Will Noret who had loaned Orton a set of harness, and Walter Be-man who had loaned him a buggy, at once concluded Orton would not come back unless compelled to do so. Accordingly the Noret boys started in pursuit. They learned he and his wife had left Wyoming at about 9 o’clock in the forenoon. Supposing Orton would go toward Rochester, they went to Toulon and learned that a man and woman had been seen going south. At 6:30 that evening they were driving by Lute Cullison’s place 12 miles south of Lafayette, when they saw Beman’s buggy standing in the stable yard, and going in, learned that Orton and his wife were there and that Orton had bargained with Farmer Cullison for two horses, intending to pay with the same kind of paper he had given Noret. Orton was somewhat surprised when be oame out of the stable and found he had been overtaken. He told Noret that he wouldn’t giye up the horse, but Noret got permission from Cullison to enter the stable, and going in, led out his mare. Then Orton tried to bluff the Noret boys by talkjng loud and drawing a razor. But the hoys didn’t scare. They finally persuaded Orton ahd his wife to come along, and started for home.
