t3F*Between six and seven o'clock on Sator-day evening, a difficulty occurred on the corner of Bank and Water street*, between John Whitten and James Hardin, an engineer on the Chattanooga, in which the latter was stabbed in three or four places in the breast and just behind the left arm. His wounds were dressed by Dr. Win. Clapp, and it is thought he will recover. The wives of the parties had been quarreling, and called each other hard names, when the husbands interfered. Whitten was arrested and held to bail in the sum of $500 to appear before Esquire Townsend at 10£ o’clock this morning, which was given. Accordingly, this morning, at the hour appointed, a large crowd gathered about the court house to witness the trial, which, however, was postponed until Thursday next. Whitten is still out on bail.
