Buck says he killed boy out of love■ Convicted murderer talks about his fascination with the occult and his relationship with Darren Gerdemanrt’s mother.By ANNLANGELCourier Staff Writer.Three-year-old Darren Gerde-mann may have had his throat slashed in an act of love.Gary Buck, in a telephone interview Wednesday from the Black Hawk County Jail, said he thought Darren , was dying from the head wound caused when Buck shot him with a pellet gun,so he sliced the boy’s throat because he loved him and wanted to put him out of his misery.“If I didn’t think he was going to die, I would have done anything in my power to save him,” Buck said. “I did it out of love.”Buck,. 21, was convicted by Judge James Bauch Monday of first-degree murder and faces a life term in prison. He believes, though, that he should have been s found guilty of second-degree murder.“I didn’t want to get off the hook completely. I would have been satisfied with second (degree),” Buck said. “Everybody needs a second chance. I hadn’tever been in trouble before. But I made a lot of bad choices.”He said he still doesn’t fully understand what happened last Nov. 21, but believes “outside forces” may have forced him to murder the boy, who was the son of his live-in girlfriend, Trenia Gerdemann, at their Evansdale home.“I don’t know sometimes if my thoughts are influenced by something I can’t see,” Buck said.“I still don’t know Iwhy I did it. The only answer that I can give of any. certainty is that I really don’t know why I did it. I reallydon’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t plan it at all. I reallydon’t know what triggered it.”The “outside forces” may have been spawned by Buck’s love for devil worship.
