Lake county has no use for such people.Something must be done to pre--vent the repetition of such disgrace** ful picnics. The Sheriff does not consider it his duty to act as a police* and at the risk of his life undertake single handed to attack the roughs. Nothing short of a strong force could, handle such a crowd, when excited by Mquor. The time will come when the decent people of Lake county will rise in their might, and put a stop to such disgraceful scenes.Sheriff Wells says that he is willing to do all that the duties of hi§ office require of him, but he does not feel it his duty to attend Chicago Sunday picnics to keep the peace.The Chicago papers say that Jasper Konder apd 33. J. Gllligan* who were in the fight at Cedar Lake last Sunday night, were both shot and dangerously wounded. That they* with John Drury and Frank Armstrong, who were supposed by the Chicago toughs to have the Switch* men’s Aid Society’s money with them were attacked while out walking; tb$ object of the attack being robbery.
